Aircraft GSE

1. 400Hz Ground Power (GPU/SSFC)

We provide solutions for all your Ground Power needs from Commercial Aircraft to Military and Business Jets, our solutions range from 45kVA to 225kVA.

Aircraft needs Power on Ground when parked at Airport Gate, Remote stand or Maintenance Hangar. A Ground Power Unit (GPU) is a System generates Aircraft power during the flight preparation, Parking or Maintenance phase.

With the use of Ground Power Units, Aircraft’s onboard Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) can be Switched OFF saving Fuel costs to Arline and reducing Airport’s Carbon Footprint.

A 400Hz Solid State Converter is intended to supply airplane’s onboard power system by 3-phase alternating current with 400Hz frequency and 3×200/115 VAC voltage during preflight preparation and technical maintenance. The rating of the individual 400Hz units is selected to be able to feed full load 400Hz power to the largest parked aircraft for F, E, D and C category of aircraft, using a combination of 90 kVA units to meet the combined loads.

Often called as Ground Power Unit (GPU) but also Solid-State Frequency Converter (SSFC), Fixed Electric Ground Power (FEGP), Static Frequency Converter (SFC) etc, Units are available in different configurations as below in AC, DC and combination outputs.

  • Mobile Diesel – GPU
  • Mobile Electric – GPU
  • Bridge Mounted – Solid State GPU
  • Ground Mounted – Solid State GPU

Pre-Conditioned Air System (PCA)

2. Pre-Conditioned Air System (PCA)

Very Similar to Ground Power Unit, A ground-based Pre-Conditioned Air (PCA) system offers an attractive alternative to Aircraft’s Auxiliary Power Unit (APU). Running the APU on the ground is very expensive for the Airline; for example, a Narrow Body aircraft consumes about 100 kg/hour of Jet Fuel to which must be added the cost of maintenance for APU.

PCA is used to maintain the cabin temperature at comfortable levels for passengers boarding or leaving the Aircraft while at ground. The PCA unit will dramatically reduce the on-site emissions and noise pollution. As a rule of thumb, let’s consider that a single narrow body aircraft running its APU during one hour every day produce in excess of 100 tons of CO2 in one year. PCA can be Installed as Bridge Mounted or Ground Mounted offered as DX or Chilled water-based systems.

For example, Direct Expansion Pre-Conditioned Air Unit DX-PCA offers a Bridge-mounted (Point of Use) OR Stand Mounted System with optional heat pump technology. Standard tonnage includes 30, 45, 60, 90 or 120 for commercial Airport configurations.

With a rock-solid foundation in energy efficient technologies, we are able to provide a PCA solution with unmatched efficiency, flexibility and serviceability. Flexible Hose and OR Telescopic Air Duct (TAD) is used to transfer the Conditioned Air to the Aircraft. Either a motorised Hose Retriever or a Hose basket is installed for Handling the flexible hose.

PCA Units can be available in varied sizes and configurations as below.

  • Aero Bridge Mounted – DX Units
  • Floor Mounted – DX Units
  • Mobile Electric – DX Units
  • Chilled Water (CW) + DX Type Hybrid Units

3. Aircraft Connection Systems

a. PITs

For the ease of 400Hz Aircraft Cable management, PCA Hose, Water Hose or access to underground utilities the best systems are PITs available in HATCH and POP-UP PIT configurations. The PITs can be opened and closed using counterbalance mechanism or Gas springs and are used for deploying cables or hoses at Airport Parking Gates, MRO Hangars, Military Airbases, and General Aviation terminals.

b. Cable Retriever

Cable Retriever/Coiler is a 400Hz Cable distribution equipment used to connect parked aircraft to the fixed electrical ground power. It is either mounted on a passenger bridge or can also be mounted on a pedestal on ground. It consists of a drum with a spiral guide and a motorized drive to unwind the extension cable when in operation and to wind it up and store it on the drum when not in use.

As an alternative to traditional cable crocodiles, this system has a motorized coil that allows for easy operation for the operator and has up to 26m special 400 Hz flexible aircraft cable.
